The Departments of Automobile and Mechanical Engineering, Paavai College of Engineering, organized a One-day industrial visit to JSW Steel Ltd., Salem Works, on 26.09.2026 (Saturday). The visit aimed to enhance students’ practical understanding of modern steel manufacturing, alloy steel production, rolling processes, quality control, industrial automation, safety practices, and environmental management. A total of 56 students from the III and IV Year of the Automobile and Mechanical Engineering Departments participated in the industrial visit, accompanied by faculty members Dr. T. Sankar and Mr. S. Nallathambi.
The visit commenced with an introductory session by the plant officials, who briefed the students on the steel manufacturing process, safety practices, and industrial operations. Students gained practical exposure to raw material processing, refining, continuous casting, rolling operations, heat treatment, and the production of billets, rounds, bars, and wire rods. They also learned about alloying elements, quality control, process automation, instrumentation, preventive maintenance, and the importance of maintaining chemical and mechanical properties in steel products. The students were also sensitized to the applications of steel in the automobile, engineering, construction, and infrastructure sectors.

The industrial visit provided students with meaningful practical exposure and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-time industrial applications.
