The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Paavai College of Engineering successfully organized a Guest Lecture titled “Fundamentals of Anesthesia Machine” on 26th September 2026. The guest lecture was delivered by Mr. K. Mukesh Kumar, M.E., Technical Service Engineer, Drager India Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, Karnataka, who shared valuable industrial knowledge and practical insights into the fundamentals, working principles, operation, maintenance, and safety aspects of Anesthesia Machines.
The event was presided over by Dr. A. Immanuel, Vice Principal, Paavai College of Engineering, who highlighted the importance of industry-oriented learning and practical exposure in Biomedical Engineering. He emphasized the significance of understanding advanced medical equipment and developing the technical skills required to meet the demands of the healthcare industry.
Mr. R. Prabu, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, welcomed the gathering and appreciated the resource person for sharing his industrial expertise with the students. He highlighted the importance of industry–academia interaction in enhancing students’ technical knowledge, professional skills, and career opportunities in the biomedical field.
The guest lecture provided participants with valuable insights into the fundamentals of Anesthesia Machines, their working principles, major components, gas delivery systems, breathing circuits, vaporizers, ventilators, and monitoring systems. The resource person explained the operation of anesthesia machines, gas flow mechanisms, safety features, and the importance of regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration in ensuring patient safety during surgical procedures. The session also provided an understanding of the practical applications of anesthesia machines in operation theatres and their role in modern healthcare.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Miss. S. Divhyadharshini, Third Year BME, followed by an introduction of the resource person by Miss. Harsha, Third Year BME. The session was interactive, allowing students to gain industry-oriented knowledge and clarify their doubts regarding the operation and maintenance of anesthesia machines. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Miss. Santhoshi, Third Year BME.
