The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Edible/Non-Edible–oil to Biodiesel: Production, Purification, Characterization and Fuel Properties According to ASTM Standards” on September 18, 2026. The programme commenced with a prayer song followed by the TamilthaiValthu.
The inaugural function was conducted in the presence of Dr. V. Hariharan, Principal; Dr. A. Immanuvel, Vice Principal; Mr. R. Harisudhan, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; IQAC coordinators; and heads of various departments.
Mr. P. Thirumurugan, a third-year B.E. Mechanical Engineering student, delivered the welcome address. The function was presided over by Dr. V. Hariharan. In his presidential address, he emphasized that Mechanical Engineers should take pride in addressing the increasing demand for energy and the environmental concerns associated with conventional fossil fuels, which have created a strong need for alternative and renewable sources of energy. Biodiesel, produced from vegetable oils, non-edible oils, and other suitable feedstocks, is one such promising alternative fuel. He encouraged students to observe the world around them from an engineering perspective.
Mr. M. Tamilselvan, a third-year B.E. Mechanical Engineering student, introduced the chief guest, Dr. A. Santhosh, Technical Head, BIGLYSO Pvt. Ltd. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. A. Santhosh, who highlighted the importance of gaining knowledge about the usage of biodiesel, biodiesel production.
The chief guest further elaborated on the production of biodiesel from edible and non-edible oils, with emphasis on the transesterification process, selection of suitable feedstocks, catalysts, alcohol-to-oil ratio, reaction temperature, and reaction time.
Mr. S. Harish, a third-year Automobile Engineering student, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
