To promote cleanliness, NSS volunteers from Paavai College of Engineering (PCE) actively participated in a cleanliness drive organized by the institution on July 30, 2025, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), inspired by the Government’s vision as articulated in the address of the President of India, pays tribute to the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and commemorates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
As part of the drive, the students cleaned the Government Higher Secondary School, Puduchatram. Activities included:
Cleaning the school premises and playground
Collecting plastic waste
Whitewashing tree trunks up to a height of 3 feet
Whitewashing the flagpole area
The NSS volunteers also raised public awareness by holding placards and informing the local community about the importance of maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.
Around 40 students participated enthusiastically in the drive, which lasted for five hours. They ensured the proper disposal of wet and dry waste and motivated local residents to adopt responsible waste management practices, emphasizing the long-term benefits of cleanliness.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. V. Hariharan, Principal of PCE, and coordinated by Mr. B. V. Maheswaran, NSS Programme Officer at PCE. The Headmaster of the school appreciated and thanked the students for their commendable efforts and contribution.
