The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Associated with ISTE, Paavai College of Engineering successfully organized a Five-Day Online Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Emerging Trends in Mechanical Engineering” from 06th January 2026 to 10th January 2026.
The program aimed to enhance faculty knowledge on the study and understand the latest technological advancements in mechanical engineering, including automation, advanced materials, sustainable manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence, and energy-efficient systems, in order to enhance innovation, productivity, and sustainable industrial development.
Day 1 – 06.01.2026
The day one session was handled by Dr. R. Thanigavelan, Principal, Shreenivasa Engineering College, Bommidi. He delivered an insightful lecture on “Surface Modification for Biomedical Applications”, highlighting the FDP enhanced participants’ knowledge of surface modification techniques for biomedical applications, focusing on improving biocompatibility, durability, and performance of biomedical materials. It also strengthened faculty capability in teaching and research related to advanced biomedical surface engineering.
Day 2 – 07.01.2026
The second day session was delivered by Dr. T. Karthikeyan, Dean & Professor, J J. College of Engineering and Technology, Trichy. His lecture on “Digital Twin Model for Flexible Manufacturing System (A Case Study)” focused on creating a real-time digital replica of a flexible manufacturing system to monitor, simulate, and optimize manufacturing performance.
Day 3 – 08.01.2026
The third day featured a guest lecture by Dr. V. Subburam, HoD, Department of Robotics & Automation, Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal. He spoke on “Emerging Trends In Product Design”, explaining recent advancements in user-centered design, digital modeling, sustainable materials, rapid prototyping, and smart product development to enhance innovation and design efficiency.
Day 4 – 09.01.2026
The fourth day session was delivered by Dr. L. Emmanual, Assistant Professor, Department of Robotics & Automation, Easwari Engineering College, Chennai. He delivered an lecture on “Design Thinking”. The session enhanced participants ability to apply user-centric problem-solving approaches, fostering creativity, innovation, and effective solution development in teaching and research practices.
Day 5 – 10.01.2026
The fifth day session was handled by Dr. S. Thiagarajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Easwari Engineering College, Chennai. He delivered a session on “Future – Ready Mechanical Design: Trends, Tools, and Technical Perspectives”, explaining the provided insights into emerging design trends, modern CAD/CAE tools, and advanced engineering practices, enabling participants to develop innovative, efficient, and industry-ready mechanical design solutions.
The FDP featured detailed presentations and interactive discussions by expert resource persons. It attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members of various institutions and provided a valuable platform to explore emerging trends in mechanical engineering.
The 5 Days Online FDP was efficiently coordinated by Dr. R. Harisudhan, along with the support of other faculty members. Around 40 faculties actively participated in the program.
