The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Paavai College of Engineering successfully organized a Five-Day Virtual Faculty Development Program titled “Intelligent Power Converter: AI Approach for Renewable Energy Applications” from 05th January 2026 to 09th January 2026.
The program aimed to enhance faculty knowledge on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), IoT, and advanced power electronics in renewable energy systems and intelligent power converters.
Day 1 – 05.01.2026
The inaugural session was handled by Dr. S. Uma, Assistant Professor (Sr.Gd), Department of EEE, Anna University, Chennai. She delivered an insightful lecture on “IoT Applications in Renewable Energy”, highlighting the role of IoT in real-time monitoring, energy management, smart grids and predictive maintenance of renewable energy systems. The session emphasized how IoT enables efficient utilization and control of renewable resources.
Day 2 – 06.01.2026
The second day session was delivered by Dr. M. Gopila, Assistant Professor (Sr.Gd), Department of EEE, Sona College of Technology, Salem. Her lecture on “Machine Learning and Deep Learning Applications in Renewable Energy Conservation Systems” focused on the use of AI algorithms for energy forecasting, load prediction, fault detection and optimization of renewable energy utilization. The session provided deep insights into how ML and DL techniques contribute to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Day 3 – 07.01.2026
The third day featured a guest lecture by Dr. S. Siddik, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal. He spoke on “Machine Learning Approach for Power Quality Improvement”, explaining how AI-based techniques can be applied to mitigate power quality issues such as harmonics, voltage sag, swell and flicker. The session highlighted practical methods to enhance system reliability and performance using intelligent algorithms.
Day 4 – 08.01.2026
The fourth day session was delivered by Dr. G. ArunKumar, Professor, Department of Electrical & Power Engineering, VIT, Vellore. He delivered an expert lecture on “AI and Machine Learning for Smart Power Converters: Modeling, Control and Applications”. The session covered advanced control strategies, AI-based modeling techniques, and real-time applications of intelligent converters in modern power systems. Participants gained valuable insights into next-generation power converter technologies.
Day 5 – 09.01.2026
The valedictory session was handled by Dr. B. Lalitha, Assistant Professor (Grade II), KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimabatore. She delivered a session on “Machine Learning Approach for Solar PV Systems”, explaining the application of ML techniques in solar power forecasting, fault diagnosis, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and performance optimization of PV systems.
Each resource person provided a detailed explanation and engaged in interactive sessions with the faculty members. The FDP witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members of various institutions and provided an excellent platform to gain insights into emerging technologies shaping the future of the power and energy sector. The 5 Days FDP was efficiently coordinated by Mr. D. Saravanan, Dr. A. Rathinam, Dr. N. Mohanapriyaa, R Jeevanandh, S. A. Nivethaa, P. Gopinathan and N. Mohanasundaram along with the support of other faculty members. Around 65 faculties actively participated in the program.
