Introduction
Paavai College of Engineering is committed to providing a reliable, safe, and secure academic environment for students and a conducive working atmosphere for all female faculty members. In accordance with guidelines from the Supreme Court, UGC, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, which safeguards against sexual harassment in the workplace, the college has established an Internal Complaints Committee (Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell).
Objectives
- Develop a policy to combat sexual harassment within the institution.
- Cultivate a secure physical and social environment to prevent instances of sexual harassment.
- Raise awareness about sexual harassment through educational initiatives, fostering a dignified and safe environment for women on campus.
- Promote social and psychological awareness to address various forms of sexual harassment.
- Provide a neutral, confidential, and supportive environment for the campus community.
- Ensure fair and timely resolution of complaints related to sexual harassment.
- Provide information on counselling and support services available on campus.
- Ensure students, faculty, and staff have access to current and comprehensive information on sexual harassment and assault.
- Establish a permanent mechanism for preventing and addressing sexual harassment cases and other forms of gender-based violence at the institute.
Responsibilities
- Uphold the institute’s commitment to providing a discrimination-free environment. • Raise awareness about different forms of harassment and avenues for redressal through articles and press releases.
- Organize various gender sensitization programs
- Arrange health awareness programs, addressing women-related issues and complaints.
Organize Women’s Day programs to raise social awareness about women’s issues and gender discrimination.
- Address issues of gender-based violence.
- Impose penalties or punishments as necessary.
- Appropriately handle reported cases of sexual harassment, abuse, or discrimination, and take action against grievances related to gender bias.
- Act as the complaint authority for sexual harassment complaints.
- Maintain strict confidentiality throughout the process in accordance with established guidelines of the Internal Complaints Committee Policy.
