Effective Curriculum Delivery

Curriculum Planning

Paavai College of Engineering, affiliated with Anna University, offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering and Technology. Anna University has adopted a Choice Based Credit System for its curriculum. The university provides guidance and direction to its affiliated colleges regarding the syllabus and academic calendar for each semester. To ensure effective curriculum delivery, our college has established various committees aimed at enhancing the learning experience for our students.

Subject Allocation

The Heads of the Departments holds meetings with faculty members to set their subject preferences. These preferences are considered based on factors such as area of specialization, skill matrix, practical experience, and previous performance. The timetable for each semester, which includes library, Seminar, placement, laboratory, and communication hours, is framed with the direction given by the Head of the Departments.

Design of Course Plan

Each faculty member develops a detailed course plan for both theory and laboratory sessions, aligned with the specified credits to enhance student performance in Internal Assessment Tests. This plan encompasses textbooks, reference materials, online resources, a question bank, ICT tools, and additional learning materials. The Head of Department (HOD) collaborates with faculty to discuss teaching methodologies and establish a timeline for the effective completion of the syllabus.

Monitoring the course delivery

The Principal and Heads of Departments (HODs) regularly monitor course delivery. Periodic feedback from students is collected to evaluate the effectiveness of course delivery and syllabus completion. Class Committee meetings are held regularly, where the student representatives express their difficulties in academic areas.

Experiential Learning

Guest lectures, industrial visits, industry interaction meetings, hands-on training and various technical programs are organized with experienced resource persons to enrich the curriculum and address challenges in the evolving technical landscape. The content is made to prepare students to be industry-ready and enhance their employability as engineers or entrepreneurs.

Conduct of Continuous Internal Assessment Test (IAT):

Internal Assessment Tests (IAT) are conducted each semester to periodically evaluate and track student’s academic performance. Three IATs for R – 2017 and Two IATs for R – 2021 are scheduled per semester to monitor the student progress. The Heads of the Departments review the internal marks obtained by students, and remedial classes are provided for those who have not performed well in the exams by adopting strategic coaching strategies.
