OBC Cell

Introduction

            The OBC (Other Backward Classes) Cell at Paavai College of Engineering was established to empower OBC students, operating in alignment with the provisions of the Constitution of India. The college is committed to providing financial assistance to students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds through government agencies and other sources. Additionally, it aims to foster a safe and respectful environment for all OBC students, mitigating instances of discrimination. The cell encourages participation in career orientation programs and endeavors to address the diverse challenges faced by OBC students, aiming to enhance their psychological well-being and equip them with the necessary skills to navigate career choices.

Objectives

            The OBC cell has been instituted to address various concerns pertaining to OBC students. The following are the primary objectives of the cell:

  • Ensure OBC students are informed about the various scholarship schemes offered by governmental agencies and NGOs.
  • Provide counseling and guidance to OBC students on various academic matters.
  • Educate and empower OBC students and staff in the college to promote equality of opportunities.
  • Offer prompt counseling for any emotional emergencies arising on the college campus.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate the reservation policy as per GOI and UGC guidelines for the educational and occupational advancement of OBC Students.
  • Establish a grievance redressal mechanism specifically for OBC students.
  • Organize orientation programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns to inform OBC students about scholarships, financial aid, and career prospects.

Responsibilities

            The OBC Cell in the college bears diverse and crucial responsibilities aimed at ensuring the welfare, empowerment, and inclusivity of OBC students. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and updating a database of OBC students enrolled in the college.
  • Disseminating government orders and circulars pertaining to the OBC community.
  • Monitoring the implementation of State Government Scholarship schemes and preparing reports accordingly.
  • Collecting reports and information related to GOI and UGC orders concerning education, training, and employment of OBCs.
  • Overseeing the Remedial Coaching Scheme for OBC students.
  • Addressing representations from OBC candidates regarding admission, scholarships, recruitment, and other matters.
  • Serving as a Grievances Redressal Cell for OBC students, assisting in resolving academic, research, and administrative issues.
  • Exclusively handling tasks related to OBC affairs, without assigning any other responsibilities to the cell.
