COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To provide practical knowledge in verification of principles of fluid flow
  • To impart knowledge in measuring pressure, discharge and velocity of fluid flow
  • To measure the discharge in an open channel flow
  • To understand Major and Minor Losses in pipe flow
  • To gain knowledge in performance testing of Hydraulic Turbines and Hydraulic Pumps at constant speed and Head

COURSE OUTCOMES:

On Completion of the course, the students will be able to,

  • verify the principles studied in theory by performing the experiments in lab.
  • measure discharge in pipes and open channels
  • determine the energy losses in conduits
  • demonstrate the characteristics curves of pumps
  • demonstrate the characteristics curves of turbines

SURVEYING -I LABORATORY

Course objectives:

  • To posses knowledge about survey field techniques
  • To study the basics of linear/angular measurement methods like chain surveying, compass surveying
  • To study the significance of plane table surveying in plan making
  • To know the basics of leveling and theodolite survey in elevation and angular measurements
  • To understand tacheometric surveying in distance and height measurements

Course outcomes:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • acquire practical knowledge on handling basic survey instruments including leveling.
  • use conventional surveying tools such as chain/tape, compass, plane table and level to perform structural plotting and highway profiling
  • take accurate measurements and knowledge in field booking, plotting and adjustment of errors
  • develop contour map of given area.
SURVEY LABORATORY – II

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To understand the basics and elements of different types of curves on roads and their preliminary survey
  • To learn about surveying applications in setting out of curves, buildings, culverts and tunnels
  • To get introduced to different geodetic methods of survey such as triangulation, trigonometric leveling
  • To learn about errors in measurements and their adjustments in a traverse
  • To get introduced to modern advanced surveying techniques involved such as Remote sensing, Total station, GPS, Photogrammetry etc.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • acquire practical knowledge on handling survey instruments like Theodolite, Tacheometery and Total station
  • carry out Triangulation and Astronomical surveying including general field marking and curves setting.
  • take accurate measurements andapply mathematical adjustment of accidental errors involved in surveying measurements
  • gain adequate knowledge in effective utilization of total station for various engineering projects

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LABORATORY

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To expose the students to the testing of different materials under the action of various forces and determination of their characteristics experimentally
  • To find the Young Modulus, torsional strength, hardness, compressive and tensile strength of given specimens
  • To find impact value of metal specimen and crushing value of coarse aggregates
  • To find stiffness of open coiled and closed coiled springs
  • To find the physical properties of given coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and cement samples

  • To understand the sampling and preservation methods and significance of characterization of wastewater.
  • To learn the basics of sewage composition and its characteristics
  • To depict the information about various sewage treatment processes
  • To provide the adequate information on various disposal standards for industrial effluents

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • analyze the status of surface water and ground water quality and the remediation technologies
  • characterize wastewater and conduct treatability studies.

COMPUTER AIDED BUILDING DRAWING LABORATORY

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To introduce the students to draft the plan, elevation and sectional views of building in accordance with development and control rules satisfying orientation and functional requirements as per Nation al Building Code.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

  • The students will be able to draft the plan, elevation and sectional views of the buildings, industrial structures, framed buildings using computer software.
COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN AND DRAWING LABORATORY

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To acquire hands on experience in design and preparation of structural drawings for concrete / steel structures normally encountered in Civil Engineering practice.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course the students acquire hands on experience in the

  • design concept of various structures and detailing of reinforcements
  • design of underground and elevated liquid retaining structures
  • design of material storage structures
  • effect of temperature on concrete structures

CONCRETE & HIGHWAY ENGINEERING LABORATORY

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To learn the principles and procedures of testing Concrete and Highway materials and to get hands on experience by conducting the tests and evolving inferences
  • To understand the properties of ingredients of concrete and behavior of concrete at its fresh and hardened state
  • To study about the concrete design mix and to know about the procedures in concreting
  • To determine some of the properties of coarse aggregates and bitumen

COURSE OUTCOMES:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • test all the concrete materials as per IS code design the concrete mix using IS code methods determine the properties of fresh and hardened of concrete
  • design special concretes and their specific applications ensure quality control while testing/ sampling and acceptance criteria
  • know the techniques to characterize various pavement materials through relevant tests
  • infer the suitability of these materials for construction of road and to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course transportation engineering

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To gain adequate knowledge in assessing both Physical and Engineering behavior of soils through laboratory testing procedures.
  • To estimate index properties of soils (coarse and fine)
  • To estimate consistency limit of fine grained soils
  • To estimate shear strength of soils

COURSE OUTCOMES:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • classify soil by physical observation of the soils
  • classify soil based on estimated index and engineering characteristics of soils
  • know the techniques to determine index properties and engineering properties such as shear strength, compressibility and permeability by conducting appropriate tests
  • carry out interpolation among the estimated soil design parameters
