Library

Paavai College of Engineering Central Library was established in 2006. It has 30430 (Books 27124 & e-books 3306) volumes of text and reference books of various disciplines. The central library subscribes 144 national and international journals and 5 leading newspapers. The library is following the open access system and provides its services to meet the requirements of UG and PG student’s and faculty members of PCE. The central library has various sections such as Reference section, Textbooks section, Periodical section, Digital library. Books for competitive examination, Back volumes section, Reprography section and etc.

LIBRARY SECTIONS

READING HALL

It has been provided in the library to create an ambient atmosphere to read. The reading hall consists of comfortable tables and chairs with adequate seating capacity. Students and faculty members are permitted to bring books, stocks & Journals from the periodical section and to use the reading hall for doing reference and research work.

REFERENCE SECTION

The library consists of about 2,356 reference books in all UG/PG program  branches and also Science & Humanities, English, General Topics, Dictionaries, Competitive  Exam Books and Encyclopaedia. The library also has a collection of rare books from inland and overseas.

NON-BOOK MATERIALS

Apart from book materials Non Book Materials in college Central Library consists of 3500 CD ROM Discs, Pen drives. These help students to improve their communications skills and to prepare for the competitive exams.

INTERNET

Our library has a high – speed Internet facility which is provided to students and faculty. The net is connected by a standalone optical fiber connection to ensure high-speed internet and can be accessed through the wireless network. 

DIGITAL LIBRARY

The digital library also called an online library, an internet Library, a digital repository, a library without walls, or a digital collection is an online database of digital objects that can include text, still images, audio, video, digital documents, or other digital media formats or a library accessible through the internet.

REPROGRAPHY SECTION

The central library provides reprography services to library users.

LIBRARY RULES & REGULATIONS

• Identity Card is compulsory for getting access to the library.
• Users must scan their ID card in the system kept at the entrance when they enter and exit the library to record their visit to the library.
• Silence is to be observed in the Central Library
• Using of Cell Phones inside the Library premises should be avoided.
• Library users are strictly prohibited from taking their own books & spiral bound books, inside the library.
• Students can borrow the books for 15 days and the faculty members can borrow books for 90 days.
• A penalty of ONE RUPEE will be charged per day after the due date has been exceeded to return books.
• ID cards are not transferable. The borrower is responsible for the books borrowed using his/her ID card.
• Underlining, scribbling and / or tearing of pages or any other type of mutilation of books and journals, mishandling or misuse of computers are punishable.
• In case any user violating the rules, the library staff are authorized to maintain discipline at the library.

LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Library Advisory Committee

            Library is governed by Library Advisory Committee (LAC). The Principal is the Chair person of the committee while the librarian is the secretary. The Committee consists of 6 members which include faculty representatives of various departments of college. Committee members discuss issues pertaining to library administration, collection development, services, policy decisions. Members give suggestions for the improvement in library services.

Integrated Library Management System (ILMS)

The library is fully automated with Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) since the academic year 2006 -2007, when AutoLib Software was designed and developed by AutoLib Software Systems, Chennai. Through the software, the library provides various services and facilities like OPAC, (Multiple Searching), e-gate, circulation, stock verification and preparation of various reports. The users can search the catalogue by author’s name, title, subject, and other keyword ILMS.  All the Department books are provided with OPAC facility to search books, journals and other reading materials available in the library. All the books, CDs, Projects, back volumes and SC/ST Book Bank Scheme books are accessioned with barcode stickers for automatic scan during the processes of issue and return of books to the library for the stake- holders.
